The Smudged Eyeliner Look

Smudged Eyeliner Look

When I am short on time but I still want a polished look, I love to do a smudged eyeliner look. You can apply any colour of pencil and smudge it to give a softer look.

How to Create a Smudged Eyeliner Look

  1. Prime your lids. I love to use Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion and I add a light dusting of a light eyeshadow over the top to lock it in place.
  2. Apply eyeliner.
  3. Smudge the eyeliner out. Either with the rubber sponge on the end of your eyeliner pencil or a brush. Personally, I prefer to use a brush.
  4. Add eyeshadow over the top of the eyeliner. This is optional but setting the liner with a little eyeshadow over the liner will help keep the eyeliner in place all day.
  5. Clean up the edges if needed. I like to use a tiny bit of concealer to do this on a definer eye brush.

Remember that a smudged look is meant to be imperfect so don’t touch it up too much!

Top Tip for the Smudged Eyeliner Look

Don’t just stick to black. Try a colourful eyeliner.

Purple eyeliner works well for all eye colours but I also love to use blue, green, and brown. The technique is always the same but I like to mix the look up by using a different colour.
