For Skincare

Typically,  most skincare products will have a shelf life of 2 to 3 years unopened and once opened 6 to 12 months depending on the brand and the active ingredients.  To protect your skincare products whether open or not, keep products in their boxes if you can and keep them in a dark, dry place and out of direct sunlight if not being used.

To help, write on the box the month and year of when you started using that particular product and when it needs to be thrown away.  There is an expiry icon on all products to let us know how long products will last once opened.  If this date has passed, it needs to go in the bin!

For Make Up

These are typical recommendations for makeup products.  Please also check the individual products as they too will have a product expiry icon on there.

Other Things to Note

Keep an eye on any changing textures or scents, if it feels or smells different, bin it!

Clean your makeup brushes.  You should clean brushes every two weeks and at least once a month.  My foundation brush, I wash daily so that I get a true foundation colour every time and I will clean all my makeup brushes every week.  Washing our makeup brushes means fewer breakouts and longer lasting brushes. Use a gentle foaming face wash or baby shampoo. I use my Australian Body Care Skin Wash which disinfects as well as cleans.  Once brushes have washed them, lay them flat on a clean towel to dry.

Sharpen eye and lip pencils regularly.

Wipe lipsticks with a little bit of alcohol on a cotton bud.

Clean your compact mirrors.  I like to use Dettol antibacterial wipes and once I have cleaned the mirror, I clean around the compact so any old makeup build up is removed.

Clean your make up bag.  You can use a wipe to do this but I find it easier to turn them inside-out and I put them in the washing machine.  They come out looking brand new and clean.

If you have any broken shadows or blushes, throw them away.
